As you may have noticed we’re working on an exciting new card came called Everbane! And while that alone is pretty cool we know that every game needs some story to keep things interesting! So in the first of our Dev Blogs we thought we’d discuss the world of Everbane.
Everbane takes place in the ruins of a once proud and noble kingdom, shattered by a world ending fight between two Titans. Not only did the Titan’s destroy each other, they destroyed the world around them, leaving the world a brutal land where knights battle monsters, fiendish cults seek to subvert the righteous and the greatest enemy is the eternal winter.
You might be asking how we came up with the idea, well we knew that we wanted to create a fantasy world full of knights, heroes and monsters but we wanted something darker and more visceral. That’s why we added a post-apocalyptic element to the setting! We felt that the high stakes action of a fantasy world combined with the dark desperation of the post-apocalyptic world would make for a seriously engaging story, some amazing imagery, some fascinating ideas but most importantly, a brilliant game! Plus we thought that a post-apocalyptic fantasy world was just cool! Now obviously there are no stories of wizards wielding A-bombs and with good reason! So a scorched, irradiated waste land was out of the question, which left us scratching our heads about what this forever changed world would be like. In the end we thought, what’s just as monstrous and dangerous as searing heat? That’s right! The Exact opposite! Relentless, freezing cold. Not only did this give us the perfect environment, where not only the creatures within it BUT the world itself is a constant danger, but it gave us the opportunity for some amazing scenes and artwork by both our artists and illustrators and the community members!
While the frozen winds and deep snow drifts are certainly dangerous and ever present, the fall of the Titan’s introduced more than ceaseless winter into the world. There are monsters that stalk the wilds in search of prey and the unwary. Great beasts, grown to massive size thanks to the new and constantly freezing environment. There are even grotesque plague-bearers, warped by dark magic, some even mutating beyond the visage of human beings. While the world of Everbane may be faced with these grave dangers there are also those who can use light magic, produced by magical crystals, to fend off the agents of the darkness! We knew the world had to have more danger than just the constant cold because as we all know, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. This is where we decided to introduce one of the classic fantasy elements into our story, light and dark magic! The warriors of the light fighting eternally against the fiends that crawl out from the dark!
But you may ask if it is possible to get even more lore about Everbane? Well a part of the dev blogs we will release regularly on our website, we also have an extended rule book with already more than 100 pages! Not only will it contain all the rules to play the game, but it will also have all the lore we have imagined.
