There are many brave and astounding heroes in the world of Everbane but the six cities that rose from the snowy wastelands around the life and warmth giving shards could be considered to be characters in their own right!

Similar to how the world was created we wanted the cities to have a sense of realism and authenticity, so we once again looked to the countries of mainland Europe where there are gorgeous cities that have stood for hundreds of years! We decided to pay tribute in our own humble way, to those cities by giving them names that reflected those regions we took inspiration from and gave them Germanic, Slavic or Mediterranean names.

Paralith

The city of Paralith was built in the shadow of the ruined capitol city Paralia and was named in honour of that great predecessor. It was the first city to be built in the new world and while its began as all the other cities, little more than a collection of shacks and hovels gathered around their shard, it has become possibly the greatest of the new cities, closely rivalled by the trade city of Almalev.

Almalev

Almalev, while its name has a more Slavic sound it would be much more accurate to think of it as a hybrid of 17th century Venice and Victorian London. Almalev is the centre of trade in the world of Everbane, with all goods and services passing through the city before reaching its destination, but is also a centre of corruption, with smugglers and bandits often moving through the shadowy subterranean waterways of the city, plotting their nefarious schemes. Despite its current grandeur its widely thought strange that Almalev exists at all for it alone of all the cities is built on an isolated, albeit giant, island and is only accessible by boat or ferry.

Oreah

Similar to the dwarves of Tolkien’s legendarium, the men of Oreah decided to make their home more within a mountain rather than at its base. And while there are no dwarves in the world of Everbane, the folk of Oreah are no less industrious and determined in their work and goals. The city soon became the spiritual home of the College of Architects who study the shards and their properties, even creating valuable machines and tools for the new age.

Athebus

Athebus is considered by many in the new world to be a thoroughly unlikable place. The city is much like Chicago in that it technically stands above ground level. The city is raised on monolithic columns above its swampy surroundings. The fetid swamp air is thought by some occupants to be more oppressive than even the relentless freezing cold beyond the city’s limits. More than this though there is a darkness within the heart of the city which began with foul murder and those who dwell within search every shadow in search of threat.

Sky Bridge

At the peak of a mountain that overlooks the frozen southern sea there is a curious city known as The Sky Bridge because it is so elevated. The city consists of hundreds of steep and winding stair cases and buildings cut into the mountain’s face but also a colossal circular plateau built by the city’s occupants, showing just how desperate they were for the shelter of their shard. This city was in part inspired by the work of George R. R. Martin and Tolkien.

Sloisa

In the vast forest to the south east lies the reprobates’ city; Sloisa. A city which has its roots in the story of Robin Hood and his town of outlaws deep in Sherwood Forest but with a much darker and harder edge. The city of Sloisa was founded and run by a band of brigands, who now reside over a city full of drunks and scoundrels much like a medieval Las Vegas that lies far too close to danger for its people to be so reckless.
